Starting today, Manaus will host the 1st Edition of the Navegistic Fair, in the Amazonian capital, a successful business initiative in the river and maritime navigation segment. For three days, the capital will be the stage for lectures, conferences and the exhibition of cutting-edge products, generating business expectations of at least US$15 million (around R$75 million at current prices), according to the organizers.

The event takes place from this Tuesday (16th) until next Thursday (18th) at the Studio 5 Convention Center, south of the city. The subject was the theme of the live podcast ‘JC at 3pm’ on JC streaming, led by journalist Fred Novaes, editorial director of Jornal do Commercio. The interviewee was David Semeghini, director of Navegistic.

Born in Paraguay, the fair began at the university with an MBA thesis, later having great resonance with the business community and in other institutions that develop courses for the improvement of naval platforms, in addition to exports and imports of products from the most diverse countries, according to David .

Navegistic will open at 2pm. Entry is free, but accreditation is required for access, which can be done online (navegistic.com) or at Studio 5 itself. Only people over 18 years of age can participate.

Several companies (national and international) will exhibit their latest generation products, representing the main innovations in a sector that moves billions of dollars, generating wealth and income on a global scale.

There are at least 50 stands that will be on display about intermodal logistics, covering new technological resources for river and sea navigation, making it possible to improve the service provided to the public.

On the first day (16), there will be parallel technical courses and conferences with national and international speakers. “There are representatives of companies from Finland, the United States, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil itself who will talk about the most diverse subjects relating to navigation. The objective is to pass on knowledge that can boost the regional sector”, highlights David Semeghini.

In the midst of these conferences, other activities will be focused on technical training for businesspeople, students and other actors involved in the segment, both in shipbuilding and in logistics operations. After the opening, the Brazilian Inland Navigation Agency will open the series of lectures on the topic. “It will be an event to publicize intermodal logistics in the river and maritime sector”, added Semeghini.

On the second day (17), expertise from the British group Ocimf will address the rules and standards for transporting fuel, currently widely used in the North Region. From 3pm onwards, parallel courses open to the general public will be held.

On the last day (18), the fair will hold more courses from 3pm. And also conferences with Brazilian and foreign experts. Representatives from the State University of Amazonas, Sesi, Senai, Sebrae, the state government, as well as several companies that explore the river and maritime sector in the region confirmed their presence.

Strategy

According to David Semeghini, holding the fair in Amazonas is quite strategic. The State has a gigantic river basin that can attract many investments from companies interested in the sector, as is the case today in Paraguay. “These are the same Paraguayan peculiarities, which contributed to making the neighboring country the third largest fleet of barges and pushers in the world”, he highlights.

Being an international event, Navegistic hopes to leave a great legacy for Amazonas. Companies from all over the world came to Manaus to learn about the region's great business potential, from imports and exports by river and sea to air transport, which today has a greater impact on import and export costs.

“If there are more investments to systematize such a vast maritime network, Amazonas certainly has ample conditions to boost the sector”, bets David Semeghini. According to him, who is Brazilian and has lived in Paraguay for 16 years, the neighboring country has made significant progress in intermodal logistics, through which it exports and imports products from various countries around the world. “We hope to plant a seed here. There is a lot of potential,” he says.

According to Semeghini, the Paraguay River cuts through five South American countries, a fact that allows for greater business exchange. “However, I see that the river network in the State needs better treatment. There is a lack of signage and also an adequate logistics infrastructure to reduce costs, increase the competitiveness of ZFM products, helping to generate more jobs and income”, he assesses. “There needs to be greater interaction with countries that already have better conditions.”
